What do you cook on at home?
“We have quite a small kitchen, so we have a gas hob Falcon installed.
But I often cook a roast Lamb and veg on the AGA at the office, put it in a cast iron pan to keep warm once it’s cooked and take it home, where I whip up a gravy.”

As the fourth generation Bone at the helm, Kim continues the family tradition his great-grandfather started. And while the building hasn’t moved since FL Bone was established in 1885, and Kim is still importing the finest home products from some of the world’s leading brands, every generation has done things a little bit differently.

As the fourth generation Bone at the helm, Kim continues the family tradition his great-grandfather started. And while the building hasn’t moved since FL Bone was established in 1885, and Kim is still importing the finest home products from some of the world’s leading brands, every generation has done things a little bit differently.
With no manufacturing here at the time or other establishments servicing Hastings’ settling families, Kim’s great-grandfather imported what was considered a necessity, from stoves to guns to gunpowder and hardware. Kim’s grandfather continued to import essential items and opened a retail shop, which was then joined in the 1960’s by his father, David and uncle, Tony. While David left in the 1980’s to pursue farming, Tony, who was passionate about architectural hardware, began focussing on how to grow this part of the business, building relationships with architects and exporting to the islands.
While hardware is still a core part of our luxury brand offering, Kim has grown the cooker offering, which now equates to 60%. of FL Bone’s business. Cookers have become more than just a practicality. They are now items of pride and place in home kitchens.
“We source the world’s best designs and only take exclusive brands, and our products are generally hand-made, not mass-produced. Our attitude is to live more sustainably, spend more, buy less, all our luxury products are designed for a lifetime” – Kim Bone
While FL Bone has been importing AGAs for 40 years and Falcon for 30, Kim is constantly travelling the world, attending design expos and trade shows, sourcing the world’s best designs. Some of which have been incredibly difficult to find. After searching Europe and the US for a luxury fireplace brand, Kim fortuitously stumbled across Cheminees Philippe in a Sydney store. The French brand, which has been warming homes in France, Italy and Spain since 1961, famously only exports to a selected suppliers in Australia and FL Bone in New Zealand.
What do you cook on at home?
“I grew up on a farm with a Rayburn, but we have an AGA in our family kitchen, and the whole family cooks on it, including the kids. My favourite thing to cook is a roast lamb. AGA cooks it beautifully, and it’s so easy. I put a frozen leg of lamb in 8am, and it’s ready to eat at 6pm.”

Amanda has been cooking up a storm at FL Bone for 12 years. If you want to really understand the workings of an AGA, explore the seemingly endless options of the Falcon range, or enjoy the history behind the luxurious La Cornue, she’s the person to see.
Cooking demonstrations are Amanda’s specialty, as you need to see an AGA or a Falcon induction top in action to explore the difference of cooking with these innovative, professional brands loved by chefs like Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsey.
Amanda enjoys working with a great team, connecting with customers and helping them choose a cooker or a fireplace. She often receives emails from customers long after purchase saying how much they still love their cooker or fireplace. Our products need to be seen and touched if you have never used one before. They all have incredible stories and are steeped in history and heritage with a difference that can’t be explained, only experienced.
“I think what makes FL Bone so special is the time that it’s been here. We pride ourselves on our outstanding service. Leading people through the options and helping them choose the right solution for them.” - Amanda Ebbett
There is always something cooking in our kitchen, whether that’s Amanda’s delicious gluten-free muffins (or maybe one of Ian’s lamb roasts). Amanda has vast knowledge of all our products and can provide expert advice, ensuring you purchase something you will love for a lifetime.
What do you cook on at home?
I have an AGA ER7 3 oven. I can cater for 20 people, which I love. I’m not a precise cook, so I love how gentle the AGA is. It’s just an easier, kinder way of cooking. I wasn’t always an AGA user, but after you have one in your kitchen, you will never go back.
Once a week I bake 2 sour dough loaves in the Roasting oven. The cast iron oven makes the crust golden and the inside of the loaf so moist.
My evening cuppa tea is often accompanied by a slice of chocolate banana bread which I bake for an hour in the baking oven. To be a little healthier, I half the sugar or use honey or maple syrup and dark chocolate chips. This loaf gives you your chocolate fix without being too sweet.
